"No Smoking" Chanel Cashmere and Silk Blouse
Incredible circa 1980’s “No Smoking” Blouse by Karl Lagerfeld for CHANEL was a tounge-in-cheek Un clin d'œil (wink) to the french smoking habits. As a non-smoker, this is pure example of Lagerfeld’s humor and wit as a designer and in his daily life. As shown, the WWD story of Lagerfeld handing out sketches of a tuxedo to editors garnished with the words ‘no smoking here’, a reference to YSL’s tuxedos and a confidence in Chanel’s own house codes. “We don’t have to do smoking,” Karl told said editors, “Hedi Slimane does it really well.” - NO SMOKING campaign in 2012. The TOTAL early woke movement in France.
